If you put on a force smile all day

If you smile all day even if you don't feel like smiling on the inside does it have the same health benefits as real smiling?Good question! Don't know but it would have a really positive effect on others who see your smile as they are very infectious, and surely one would feel like [b:892f287483]really[/b:892f287483] smiling after a while of 'acting-as-if' :?: (Purple)

Here is an example In Australia and America many of the sales assistance are smiling when they don't want to smile. In England if a sales assistant smiles you feel something is wrong. (charles vald)

Ha ha!!! (Purple)

I think it still has benefits. Even a fake smile exercises those mouth muscles. (rachael)

Your brain is easy to fool (thank goodness). You can't smile and be unhappy. Try it. If you force yourself to smile for no reason, the action sends impulses to your brain. Your brain knows that smiling = happy and therefore it tells you to feel happy. We all know how we 'feel' when you are happy or unhappy. If you look at anyone, you can immediately tell if they are happy or unhappy. You know by the body language, not by the way that they are 'feeling'. So its simple. If I want to feel happy or unhappy, its my choice. All I do is tell my brain to be happy - I then smile, relax, open my wides ider etc. Conversely, I can unhappy in an instance - tense up, scowl, hunch up, etc. All this is done sub-consciously, and its why some people can appear happy all the time. It dosn't really matter what they experience. They decide to be happy and act happy. Aim to be around these people - they are joy. Avoid the opposite people as they'll suck all the life our of you, until you are as miserable as them. To me, the only difference is the choices someone makes as to how they feel. The reality of what is actually happening is irrelevant. You choose how you feel about ANY experience. This sort of thing has been covered in many books. If you don't believe me - some people will and some will not (which proves my last paragraph!), but anyway read 'In Search of Meaning by Victor Frankel.' He was in a Nazi concentration camp, which must be just the worst experience anyone could have. He survived and puts this down to how he (and other survivors) chose to behave. He said they could do whatever auwful acts they wanted and subject him to physical pain which he could nothing about. The only control he had was over his feelings and reactions and he refused to let the Nazis dictate these. He maintained that he would not swop this experience for anything. Quite something and very humbling when we ever decide its time to be unhappy. (Dave T)

I aggree Dave, see my post from a while back! http://wellbeingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=45 :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D (Purple)

Hi Purple. Thanks for the link. Its good to see that there are a lot of 'smilers' out there. Try smiling at strangers in the street as well. As long as it is brief and in public, it should we OK and most people can't help but give a quick smile back. Dave (Dave T)

:D :D :D :  D Now we simply need the rest of the UK and beyond to smile in the streets as well. The health service would save a lot of money. Could you imagine a government funded smiling campaign (charles vald)

Oh, now that is a great idea Charles! :D (Purple)

Ok, so who is going to contact the United Nations about this. (charles vald)

Well, now then, let's see.................................. I volunteer your good lady, what do ya say Racheal???? (Purple)
