Seashore CD
[Back]
Hi everyone,
I received my Seashore CD this week - one of the children's stories to help them unwind and sleep. Well, my dd is the perfect 'guinea pig' for anything like this - she has energy like I have never seen before and such an inquiring mind that doesn't seem to switch off (much like her mouth :D )
For the past two nights we have gotten her ready for bed and played the CD - she still fidgets around and can't sit still, *but* she doesn't talk through the whole CD (not talking for 20 minutes is quite unbelievable, believe me!). The first night she did seem to go to sleep a little quicker. Not sure about last night, but she had a lot going on yesterday emotionally, so was pretty wired.
Dh was fast asleep on both nights
Should I just carry on Charles, and 'model' how to sit with eyes closed to listen? Do you think she might eventually begin to 'allow' and surrender the process of relaxing? I sometimes feel that she is being 'driven' by something within her that doesn't agree with unwinding and sitting still!
have a lovely weekend everyone and thanks for the CD Charles - the adults in the house certainly benefitted
wingsofloveI have the perfect answer.
Before you play the CD talk to your child about the what story and adventute they are going to imagine when they get to the end of the CD.
With the bedtime seashore CD maybe yoru child will play with the dolphins again, go to a magical island, a submarine or even better if they can come up with their own ideas. This gives the child a lovely new focus to think about when using the CD. (charles vald)
Did that help? (charles vald)[quote:d2e49a082f="charles vald"]Did that help?[/quote:d2e49a082f]
Hi Charles,
Life had that habit of running off without me last week, so I have to admit to rushed, last-minute bedtimes without the downtime of listening to your cd.
Once the madness of Christmas is over, I will resume my regularly scheduled life and put your thoughts into practise!
Thanks for the feedback :)

Maybe after the madness of Xmas they might be sleeping fine on their own :)
Have you ever seen the t .v. show house of tiny tearaways? (charles vald)[quote:2c1489679a="charles vald"]Maybe after the madness of Xmas they might be sleeping fine on their own :)

I spent 5 Christmases hoping for that with Lowan - she is [b:2c1489679a]still[/b:2c1489679a] awake at 10pm most nights having listened to the Seashore CD [b:2c1489679a]and [/b:2c1489679a]the Fairy CD [b:2c1489679a]and[/b:2c1489679a] the Farm CD !!!!
She absolutely loves them but won't go off to sleep. It did work a couple of times early on but that was with Daddy lying down with her, and he was asleep first!!! Anyway, no loss as she really does love the CD's and listens to them over and over. Maybe she is too young at 5, I don't know. But she is just like her paternal grandmother and has a very active brain and just needs very little sleep. At least if she stays in her room and doesn't disturb us that's one thing - we still put her to bed for 7.30pm every night. We [b:2c1489679a]have[/b:2c1489679a] to have time away from her! (Purple)
So do you put her to bed at 7.30 and she reads on her own till 10pm?
What does she do when you go downstairs? (charles vald)She starts off in bed listening to your CD, she then may get her books out and then may get out and play with her toys! She cahnges her CD when it's finished for another one! We hear her saying sometimes " [b:6354fa21e2]OHH![/b:6354fa21e2] I don't want the colour bit! I have already had a pink leg tonight - I just want the fairy bit! " That does make us chuckle a lot!
We have done so many different things with her over the years. When she was younger even the Health Visitor said she had no more suggestions! We had a good go at everything in the book as they say!
I have had 32 children altogether ( 30 of them fosters ) so am not an inexperienced parent by any means! Before fostering and having my own children I was a nanny and childminder and I was also a Houseparent in a Boarding school for many years. However, I have [b:6354fa21e2]never[/b:6354fa21e2] had a child like this - [b:6354fa21e2]ever[/b:6354fa21e2]!!! Don't know where we got her from !!!
We seriously do think it may be a genetic trait from her Nana who is a real live wire and sleeps for only a few hours a night herself.
Have to say that at the moment it's the best it's ever been cos she has been left at 7.30 and mosly stays in her room at least whereas in the past we have had screaming and shouting and wandering in and out! (Purple)Purple, it sounds like you have a child who breaks the mould. I am glad that the CDs are at least helping her to have a quiet and relaxing time, which I think is very important for children.
You've probably already thought about this, but what about some type of physical activity that will really knacker her out. A martial arts class could be good because it will also help her focus her mind.
The other thing that may help is using the induction of the CDs to help your child relax and then change it to a longer story CD, such as a story CD of My Naughty Litle Sister, Or the Dick King Smith Sophie Stories. These stories probably go on longer than the ones Charlie and I create.
I am glad people are using the CDs and that even if your child isn't asleep by the end, I think the half an hour relaxation time is important for children's development. In the New Year we plan to be adding more titles to the series.
rachael (rachael)Yes, the physical activity thingy!!!
This year for her birthday in May we bought her a 10ft trampoline for in the garden and as long as it is not raining she is on that every day, after dinner, before bed etc etc; she loves it!!!
Hasn't seemed to work in the way of wearing her out though and she goes to after school clubs on several days of the week also, Art club, Swimming - she is [b:5471e38a8b]very[/b:5471e38a8b] good at swimming, no armbands since 2 yrs old, can swim 10m without stopping and underwater too!! ( Can you tell I am proud???!!!! ) Hoseriding, trots on her own now! [b:5471e38a8b]AND[/b:5471e38a8b] in September she started Yoga Bugs - a yoga class designed around children 2-7 yrs incorporating stories with the movements - promised me that this was good for children's concentration, relaxation [b:5471e38a8b]and [/b:5471e38a8b] helps with sleep problems! Well, you guessed it she appears to be more lively when she comes out of the class!
However she loves Yoga Bugs and is practising at home. I have never been interested in yoga soI am glad for her that she enjoys it and can learn to relax with it and wit the CD's.
Will have to look out for longer story CD's - hadn't thought about that. Thanks! :) (Purple)hey Purple,
How's your daughter's sleeping habits? Did getting some longer CD books work?
Rach (rachael)Haven't been able to get them actually as finances rather stresssful to be honest. Got some more of Charles' CD's for my Hypno studies with some Chrissie pressie money and due to the great discount he offerred got her the Sounds by the river and sounds of the seaside ones which she chose. She enjoys listening to those.
She doesn't go to sleep any earlier but stays in her room without coming out more often than not now. She has always done that every so often though, has to be said, and then she will suddenly do the in and out wandering around again! She is 6 yrs old in a few months and I think she just doesn't need much sleep, never has done, be alright if we didn't either!
What about T Rex Therapy for your son, still working?? (Purple)The T-rex therapy is not working much, the dinosaurs might need their own counciling service.
We played the bedtime cd to our son last night it helped until my voice stopped, so my wife is going to try the fairy story tonight as its a lot longer and has her voice on it.
He's lucky to have his own parents on CD.
http://www.hypnosishealthcare.com/fairystory.html (charles vald)He certainly is lucky!
My daughter has her CD's on repeat and we often forget until we ly down to go to bed, in next room which is very close, and hear yours or Rachael's voice through the wall so we have to get up again and turn it off!!!! Or it could be the trickling water sound which means I have to go to the loo again!!! (Purple)
