What age is it safe for a child to listen to Hypnosis
[Back]
Hello all I was wondering what age is it ok for a child to listen to a tape with hypnosis. My son is 11 and has a fear of dogs and I thought it might help if he could get past this when he is young. He has been bitten twice and I feel that a dog can sence fear from a child. So any help would be grateful
God bless
SummerHi Summer,
The answer to your question is that Children in fact make some of the best and most responsive subjects, so your Son will be fine listening to a tape. The only proviso I would add is to listen to the tape yourself first and if it makes you feel uncomfortable in any way then don't use it.
I have a client whom I have seen off and on for years, She is an exceptional subject who enters Hypnosis very easily. She phoned me one day to say that She had a tape from the local library for stress and after trying it She felt very uncomfortable.
I suggested She let me listen to it before using it again and I was horrified to find a Scotsman with about 10,000 letters after his name, telling whoever that they should take take themselves back to a really stressful time and re-experience it in detail, then you were to accept that it was fun really and that you were enjoying the experience - there was more to it but imagine if your stress had been caused by flying through a windscreen in an accident!!
Needless to say that I told her not to use it and suggested to the Library that they remove it from their shelves.
The problem that everyone faces is that the Industry is not regulated and therefore anyone can call themselves a Hypnotherapist, this leads to further problems because much of the Training available is dubious too, it is very easy to get a fistful of letters to use and still know very little.
Try to stick to tapes or CDs from someone with a good reputation and preferably on the recomendation of someone who has achieved good results from the same tape or CD.
The reason Children are so good is because their brainwaves are still in the Alpha wave state and don't change to Beta until they are about 16. The Alpha to Theta region is where I would want a client to be for effective Hypnosis, so Children are almost there before you start. They also have the most wonderful imaginations.
Hope this helps. (Dragonfly)
I think Dragonfly has answered the question as well as I could have.
Listen as Dragonfly has said to the CD first, and at its content.
My Help Children Sleep CDs start with simple relaxation exercises and then a gentle guided bedtime story. And the CD has a very high success rate because children have great imaginations.
Good Luck
Charles (charles vald)It is the guided sleep CD that I have ordered for my daughter. She is 5 and we have thought about hypnosis and then used our own knowledge as NLP Practitioners to aid her to relax. However wether or not it is because she is our own child and not a 'client' we have been exasperated at times with the lack of sleep she appears to need!!! We have ordered this CD and are very hopeful indeed after reading others comments :) (Purple)
How did the cd go Purple - Did you find it useful?
It is amazing how little sleep some children seem to need. I'm lucky in that dd needs a good 10 hours or so - no complaints there :D
I might find it useful during the summer though; she can be up past 10 pm bouncing around and then up with the cockrels at 6am very grouchy and grumpy and refusing to give in.
She tends to be light sensitive - do you notice this with your daughter? In the winter, she is asking to go to bed at 4.30 and I have to try and keep her up - I guess you could say she is in tune with the rhythms of the seasons.
I'm fine with that, but she gets really tired towards the end of the summer (and no, blacking out her room doesn't have any effect!) so I was wondering if the cd might be helpful, if only to get her to relax during the middle of the day or something......
